MHS PTSO General Meeting 3-11-08
MHS PTSO General Meeting 3-11-08
MHS PTSO General Meeting 3-11-08

President Cele Eifert welcomed everyone present.  (See list below.)

Principal’s Remarks
Assistant Principal Lisa Fine talked about the new Freshman Camp scheduled for July 29-30 at McIntosh for incoming freshmen.  McIntosh received a grant to fund this new program, which will replace Freshman Orientation.  During Camp McIntosh freshmen will receive their schedules, listen to talks on subjects like dress code, attendance, appropriate language, etc.  Parents will be able to meet with the counselors.   There was discussion on how to handle those freshmen who can’t make the camp.  Perhaps the PTSO can help with limited tours.

Treasurer’s Report
Income for February included $3488 from Fashionata and $2289 from the school store.  Expenses included $972 for Fashionata and $682 for the school store.

Committee Reports

Nominating Committee
The committee is still working on the slate and hopes to present it at the April meeting.

Fashionata
The treasurers are still working on the final numbers, but it looks like the event raised about $1200.  Improvements for next year include involving our feeder schools and alumni, including more students and vendors, and trying for an earlier date.

School Store
Water is selling well, but juice sales are down due to the higher price from the Coke products.

Student Club
At their 3-20 meeting, Cele will lead the discussion on how the club wants to spend their $3000 for the school.  Ideas include a TV for the senior cafeteria, picnic tables for the courtyard, and a mural.

Student Leadership Class
A meeting was held with the teacher sponsors of various clubs at McIntosh on March 6.  Cele discussed the idea of holding a seminar with club officers to teach them how to run a successful meeting.  The teachers were enthusiastic about the idea and offered many suggestions on what would be helpful.  Rotary would also like to help.  The goal is to hold the first meeting with the students sometime in April to give them some basics and get their feedback.  This would then become an ongoing program.

Teacher Appreciation Week
After much discussion of possible gifts for the teachers from the PTSO, a motion was made to buy $10 Starbucks gift cards for the teachers.  The motion was seconded and then passed.  After getting the exact number of teachers, Anne Houston will purchase the gift cards.

New Business

Rising Freshmen MHS Spirit Packs
Back Sacks containing a MHS t-shirt and a magnet will be sold to the rising freshmen at Booth,   Bennett’s Mill, and St. Paul before the end of the year.

Volunteer Appreciation Brunch Date
The brunch will be Tuesday, May 13 at 10 am at Cele’s house.  This is the date for our last meeting of the school year.  All volunteers are welcome.  Pat Cook will send out invitations to the committee chairs.

The next meeting is Tuesday, April 15 at 10 am in room 202.

The meeting was adjourned.
