If the listing indicates that a nomination is needed, come by Guidance to pick up the Nomination Form to complete and return to Guidance.  Feel free to contact your guidance counselor if you need assistance.  Mrs. Huey is this year’s contact for scholarships. 

On-Campus College Visits:  Come by Guidance to sign-up in the On-Campus Visit book, complete the form for a pass, and pick up a handout.  These visits are for senior and juniors only.  Remember no passes will be issued the day of the visit.  Only three visits per student per year, so choose wisely!

Order Transcripts in Guidance, cost is $3.00 ea —and will be available in THREE school days after ordering.  Transcripts can now be ordered online at www.GAcollege411.org.  Go to www.GAcollege411.org.  Log on or create an account.  Click on “My 411”.  Choose “My Transcripts” on left menu. (A little below half point).  Verify or update information.  Click “Update info and continue” button.  Select destination schools (use CTRL and click to select multiple schools if you choose to send to more than one).  Enable automatic release of future versions.  Click “Release Transcript” button.  A confirmation will be presented.  Recipient Post Secondary Institution(s) will be listed with release date.  After the Post Secondary Institution downloads the transcript, a date will be displayed.  Log off. 

All seniors who have been accepted to a college or university and/or received a scholarship come by the Guidance Office and sign the college acceptance book.

College Goal Sunday is designed to assist high school seniors complete their 2009-2010 FAFSA forms for college financial aid.  On February 15th at 2:00 p.m. financial aid administrators will be at 21 sites across the state.  For site information, please visit www.collegegoalsundayga.com.

The Bank of America is once again sponsoring the Student Leadership Summit.  Selected Student Leaders participate in a paid summer internship with an Atlanta nonprofit organization where they experience first-hand how they can help shape their communities – now and in the future.  Awardees also participate in a six-day, all expense paid leadership summit in Washington, D. C.  These opportunities will expose students to leadership aspects in civic, nonprofit and business arenas.  High school juniors and seniors may get more information and apply online at www.bankofamerica.com/neistudentleaders by February 20, 2009.    

College of Charleston Open House for Spring will be April 18, 2009.  Register online for Open House at www.cofc.edu/admissions.  

Augusta State University’s Senior Visitation Days will be January 31 or March 28, 2009 from 1 – 5 p.m.  High School Junior Visitation and Tour Day is April 25, 2009 from 1 – 4:30 p.m.   

The United States Military Academy’s Summer Leaders Seminar 2009 will take place May 30June 5, 2009 and June 6 – 12, 2009.  It will bring together approximately 900 students, an increase of 100 over last year, outstanding rising high school seniors from around the country for a six-day immersion into West Point.  The program consists of daily morning physical training, academic classes, and intramurals, a day of military training, administration of the Candidate Fitness Assessment (CFA), a West Point tour, and social functions.  The academic program features workshops and class samplings from the Academy’s curriculum.  All participants stay in cadet barracks and meals are in the Cadet Mess.  Students pay their own travel expenses plus a registration fee of $325 to pay for food, workshop materials, and some West Point apparel.  Students apply for SLS (Summer Leaders Seminar) online only at http://admissions.usma.edu/.  There will be a link to “click” to apply for SLS starting December 15, 2008 and ending on April 1, 2009.  Students are selected from among the top performers academically and in leadership potential as gauged by their extracurricular and athletic activities with consideration given to admissions process.  Last year, we received over 3,500 applications for SLS and we anticipate similar interest this year.  Generally, students invited to attend SLS will be competitive for admission to West Point. 

The Unites States Army is presenting Youth & Education Services Career Day at the Races.  The event will be on Friday, April 17th.  Arrival time between 8 – 10 a.m. at the Atlanta Dragway, 500 E. Current 11th grade students can apply to the United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar.  The application is completed on line via the Naval Academy website at www.usna.edu.  Click “Admissions” and the “Summer Seminar” and complete the application.  Spaces are limited and fill up quickly.
