Study Skills Workshop: Huntington Learning Center and the MHS Counseling Department will offer a study skills workshop for 9th and 10th grade tudents AND their parents on February 2 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm.  More information will follow!

Summer Programs 2012

ASSE International Student Exchange Programs – ASSE provides different programs in a variety of destinations such as Germany, Spain, New Zealand, Turkey, France, Australia, and South Africa.  For more information, www.asse.com or 800-333-3802

Junior State of America – Is seeking serious, actively interested students who enjoy discussing and debating issues.  Located on the campuses of Georgetown, Princeton and Stanford, this program includes three core components that provide engaging learning experiences while building leadership qualities:  A Rigorous Curriculum, Student Debates, Exciting Speakers Programs.  This year they are offering a new program which takes 25 highly qualified students to Beijing, China for 4 weeks to study Chinese History & Government, learn beginning conversational Chinese and visit historical cultural sites.  For more information, 800-334-5353 or email jsa@jsa.org

Oxbridge Academic Programs – Summer opportunities in Europe for July, 2012.  Their programs in Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Montpelier, and Barcelona offer students currently in grades 8-12 the chance to challenge themselves intellectually.  Their programs in France and Spain offer language courses for every level, from beginner all the way up to immersion courses.  For more information, info@oxbridgeprograms.com or 800-828-8349

Furman Summer Scholars 2012 - The Summer Scholars program is an academic enrichment program that engages rising juniors and seniors in small group settings under the direction of Furman faculty members. Students have the opportunity to challenge their mind, make friends that will last a lifetime and have lots of fun. The academic experience will include lectures, class discussion, debates, laboratory research, field trips, group and individual projects, and other activities intended to provide a challenging learning experience. All courses are led by professors and professional experts in their respective fields. While each class has different capacities, no class has more than 20 students enrolled. A scholar is defined as “a student that studies under a teacher.” Please come and study under the best faculty and professional leaders in the nation! University of Richmond Summer Scholars Program We’re in the process of revamping our Summer Scholars program as a non-residential on-campus experience. The two-week program will provide both an academic enrichment experience and tailored extra-curricular experiences for college-bound students, including SAT Preparation workshops, college essay writing workshops and financial planning for college workshops. February 15 scholarship deadline

Armstrong Atlantic State University STEP scholars The College of Science and Technology at AASU has been funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to offer a summer research scholar program for students majoring in science, math and technology.  The NSF- STEP (Science Technology Expansion Program, DUE-0856593) allows us to offer summer research opportunities, mathematics preparation and potential course credit for up to 20 students in the Class of 2016.  STEP scholars will conduct research in the summer before their first year at AASU and will be eligible for a second summer of research after successful completion of their freshman year. Students interested in becoming a STEP scholar must fill out the STEP scholar application which should be submitted electronically no later than April 29, 2012

CDC Disease Detective Camp - The David J. Sencer CDC Museum is pleased to announce the 2012 CDC Disease Detective Camp (DDC)  held at CDC’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. DDC is an academic day camp for upcoming high-school juniors and seniors who will be 16 years old by the first day of camp. Dates for the 2012 sessions are June 18-22 and July 16-20, and applications are now available at http://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/about.htm.  Application to the camp is open to the public. Each session will include the same activities, from 8:45 AM - 4:00 PM each day. There are no camp fees, but each camper is responsible for bringing or buying his/her lunch. 
Please note that admission to the CDC Disease Detective Camp is competitive.  Applications are ranked by an independent panel, so it is important that essays are thoughtfully written and all required components are included.  The deadline for applications is April 6, 2012.  Letters will be emailed to all applicants on May 4, 2012.  For more information on the camp and the application process, please visit http://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/about.htm. Questions?  First, read all the information at http://www.cdc.gov/museum/camp/about.htm.
