The LOT partners National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) mentors with high school students. They are looking for students who are high performers & achievers to participate in a variety of events, workshops, and activities designed to prime them to emerge from high school with an internship related to a chosen career path. Juniors and Seniors: Bank of America Student Leaders Program

The Bank of American Charitable Foundation's Student Leaders Program is accepting applications for the 2012 program.  The program helps students gain a greater understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community and develops them as the next generation of community leaders through two components:
  • A summer 2012 eight-week paid summer internship with selected nonprofit organizations designed to provide  opportunities for the students to develop and apply leadership skills through hands-on work experience, while raising their awareness of community issues addressed by their host organization.
  •    A week-long all-expense paid Student Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C., July 15-20, 2012. Conducted in partnership with the Close Up Foundation, the Summit introduces students to aspects of civic, social and business leadership and provides them with knowledge and skills they will use throughout their life to create positive community change.

UGA Young Scholars Summer Program

The Young Scholars Program is a six week summer internship for high school students interested in science, agriculture, or engineering. Through the program, young scientists are given the opportunity to study within an agricultural field, such as entomology, food science, genetics, etc., and learn about applied science in agriculture. Students work side by side with a mentor, with whom they will interact on a daily basis to develop a research project and create a presentation. At the end of the program, each participant presents their research and findings.
The goal of the Young Scholars Program is to encourage outstanding high school students to explore new areas and pursue a future career in science.
As a high school student, you will have the opportunity to earn money for six weeks during the summer working with animals, plants, insects, machinery, scientific lab equipment, etc.
The program is opened to students that have finished their sophomore year, juniors and seniors and are 16 years by June 1.
The program will be from June 4 to July 13, 2012.

Application deadline is January 31, 2012 - transcript and two letters of recommendation from science, math or agriculture teachers are required.

Vanderbilt University PAVE Program for Juniors

The 2012 PAVE program at Vanderbilt University, celebrating its 22nd anniversary, is a summer pre-college program designed to strengthen the academic skills of students who are planning to enter a college engineering, pre-medical, science, or technology program, and ease the transition from high school to college. PAVE is open to high school students who are in the 11th grade (class of 2013) or 12th grade (class of 2012) during the 2011-2012 school year. Cost: $4,170 tuition. Need-based financial support is available.

Program dates: June 25 through August 5, 2012. Make-up and wrap-up sessions will be provided for students who need to arrive late or leave early.

Application deadline: April 20, 2012. Completed applications are evaluated as they are received.

CollegeBOUND Atlanta – is hosting the CollegeBOUND Academy for Juniors and Seniors October 1, 2011 through May 5, 2011. It is an educational program designed to provide guidance and counseling to high school students preparing for college. They provide support throughout the challenging college preparation and admissions process. On-Campus College Visits

Come by Guidance to sign-up in the On-Campus Visit book, complete the form for a pass, and pick up a handout. These visits are for Seniors and Juniors only. Remember no passes will be issued the day of the visit. Only three visits per student per year, so choose wisely!

Off-Campus College Visits
Juniors and Seniors are allowed up to two days a year for college visitations. They must complete the " Intent to Visit College" form BEFORE the college visit. All teachers must sign the Intent form and the form is returned to the ATTENDANCE office at least one day prior to the scheduled college visit. When the intent form is turned into the attendance office the bottom (verification) portion of the form will be returned to the student.

The verification portion of the form is to be taken with the student to the college visit and must be:
  1. SIGNED by the college official
  2. STAMPED with the official college stamp or have a letter from the college attached to confirm the visit.
Business cards, e-mails and parking passes are not accepted as verification of a college visit. If the paperwork is completed and the visit is confirmed these absences are classified as EXEMPT.
